Transparency International index 
The recent Transparency International index published by the Berlin-based Transparency International with the aim to rank countries how corrupt a country’s public sector is.
Using a scale of 0 (perceived to be highly corrupt) to 100 (perceived to be very clean) the index ranked 176 countries around the world.
According to José Ugaz, the chairperson of Transparency International corruption, bribery, theft and tax evasion, cost developing countries about US $1.26 trillion annually.
Most of these corrupt countries are characterized with declining democracies, crackdown on civil societies, limit press freedom, and a weak judiciary.
The lowest 46 Countries which Transparency International identified as having a serious corruption problem are listed below. They are regarded as the most corrupt countries on earth with a score below 50.

Speaking on the list,  Ugaz noted that there exist a strong correlation between poverty and corruption “in too many countries, people are deprived of their most basic needs and go to bed hungry every night because of corruption, while the powerful and corrupt enjoy lavish lifestyles with impunity.”

Somalia came out as the most corrupt country on earth The East African nation has not had a functioning government since 1991. Most countries at the top of the list are in Central Asia and Africa which are currently experiencing turmoils, wars or insurgencies such as South Sudan, Syria, Sudan, Yemen, Afghanistan and Iraq who are all ranked in the top 10. Russia an outlier in the list came in because President Vladimir Putin uses state funds to “enrich his friends, his close allies, and marginalize his opponents” according to the U.S. Treasury department.
