MARRAKECH — Moroccan bustling, gritty city of Marrakech on Thursday opened a 4,000 square meters (43,000 sq. feet) Yves Saint Laurent museum doors to the public on Oct. 20.
Earlier on Oct. 14 the wife of Moroccan King Mohammed VI, Lalla Salma, alongside actresses Catherine Deneuve and Marisa Berenson inaugurated the project.
The museum was designed by French architectural firm Studio KO in memory of the late French designer who loved the city. And Co owns

The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the Yves Saint Laurent and comes with a large permanent exhibition space showcasing the collections and also features temporary exhibition spaces, a research library and archives, an auditorium, bookstore, and a terrace café.

Museum Director Bjorn Dahlstrom explained that:

"The project finds its genesis in the temporary exhibition organized in the Majorelle Garden, which was called 'Yves Saint Laurent and Morocco,'"(That) exhibition was so enthusiastically welcomed that Bergé decided to create here, in Marrakech, a museum dedicated to Yves Saint Laurent."

Next to the museum the Majorelle Garden exhibits a special significance for Saint Laurent, who would often design his collections in the shade of the city's dappled terracotta buildings with the scent of flowers in the air. The Majorelle Garden is one of the most visited tourist sites in the city today.

Visitors were seen buying tickets on Thursday next to a red facade of Tetuan brick and granite at the entrance to the museum, which Dahlstrom said "fits perfectly in the urban environment of Marrakech."
