The world’s First quantum satellite launched in China

On Tuesday the world's first quantum satellite that could help establish hack-proof communications between space and the ground was launched by China in the latest advance in space program development. The project will test quantum key distribution, a form of secure communication in which the laws of quantum mechanics prevent eavesdroppers from snooping in. If successful, they hope to create a communications network around it.
The Quantum Experiments at Space Scale (QUESS) was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in the remote northwestern province of Gansu according to the official Xinhua news agency.

QUESS will First, undergo three months testing. “If everything works fine, it will be handed over to scientists for scientific experiment and further build up.
Other countries are watching the Chinese mission with interest around the world especially those working on quantum satellites .Pan Jianwei, the project's chief scientist, told the agency that "the newly launched satellite marks a transition in China's role from a follower in classic information technology development to one of the leaders guiding future achievement".
The Quantum communications satellite will enable secure communications between Beijing and Urumqi, China's violence-prone far western region of Xinjiang, where the government says it is battling an Islamist insurgency. Quantum messaging could become a major defense against hackers and have applications ranging from military and government communications to online shopping.

China will take a major step toward building a worldwide network that can send messages that can't be wiretapped or cracked through conventional methods if the tests are successful.
To securely communicate between two points Quantum communications use subatomic particles.so that a hacker trying to crack the message have to change its form in a way that it would alert the sender and cause the message to be altered or deleted.
Sent quantum messages were previously sent through land by Researchers around the world. But a true satellite-based network would make it possible to send quickly encrypted messages in an instant and open the door to other possible uses of the technology.
